About the data
Grain Fees is an independent site. It isn't the Canadian Grain Commission's and isn't affiliated with it or with any grain company. It publishes no grain prices or bids, takes no fees from elevators, and says what the filings say.
The figures
Every company licensed to run a primary grain elevator must file its charges with the Canadian Grain Commission before they take effect, and can't charge more than it filed. It may charge less. The Grain Commission publishes them as a summary of licensed primary elevator charges. This site reads the current summary, crop year 2026–27, updated September 15, 2026 (the file), and the earlier ones since 2014 for each company's history.
- Every figure is a maximum. No figure on this site is what an elevator will charge; it's the most it may.
- Fees are filed by company, not by elevator. Every Cargill elevator may charge Cargill's maximums. A few companies file rows for a province (Paterson) or a station (Ceres' Northgate and Nicklen Siding, G3's Maidstone); those elevators get those rows.
- Units are kept. Most figures are dollars a tonne; storage is a tonne a day. Some companies file drying per tenth of a point of moisture over straight grade, added to elevation, sometimes with a minimum; these are shown that way and compared only with each other. A percentage of the grain's price, a figure whose unit isn't stated, or a footnote in place of a figure is shown as filed and left out of every order and the calculator.
- Every footnote is shown where it applies, as filed. Footnote marks mean different things on different pages of the file, so each page's own footnotes are used.
- No elevator is ranked as a deal. Lists are nearest first; a list in order of fee is “lowest filed maximum”, one crop and one service at a time, because a filed maximum isn't a price.
- The file's own quirks, shown as filed: 'BP & Sons Grain and Storage Inc.' canola reads '.'; 'Parrish & Heimbecker++' carries ++ with no footnote on the page; 'Parrish & Heimbecker +++' carries +++ with no footnote on the page; 'Richardson Pioneer Ltd.' carries + with no footnote on the page.
The elevators
The Grain Commission's list of licensed primary elevators as of 2026-08-01: 329 elevators. Each is placed on the map at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's point for it (Grain Elevators in Canada, Open Government Licence – Canada), or at its town's centre where that point isn't in the open data (14).
Each elevator is matched to its licensee's filing by name. 308 elevators are matched. 66 elevators are licensed under a new name and matched to the filing under the old one, from the Grain Commission's own list of name changes (Bunge Canada Inc. was Viterra Canada Inc. until October 2025). 9 elevators are licensed jointly to Alliance Pulse Processors Inc. and Mobil Grain Ltd.; they get Alliance's filing. Each such elevator's page says so.
